You Should Know These Negative Consequences of Brexit on Your Contracted Laboratory Services

How will Brexit Affect your Contracted Laboratory Service?

You may wonder how the UK leaving the EU will impact your industry. Suppose you currently avail of contract laboratory services in the UK. In that case, the effects of a no-deal Brexit may have major implications on the ability of UK-based laboratories to provide a reliable service.

Brexit’s Effect on Transport, Sample Preservation & Holding Times

The EU Customs Union means goods (and services) can move freely within the EU with no tariffs applied as they move from one country to another. Without this agreement, there will inevitably be delays between Ireland and the UK.

All ISO 17025:2005 accredited laboratories are required to maintain the temperature of the water during transport. To accurately analyse most water matrices to meet IS0 17025 specifications, there is a maximum of 24 hours to reach the laboratory. With the likelihood of delays at border checks and ports due to Brexit, it is expected to become nearly impossible to meet these standards.
